Submit application within 180 days after graduation
For all applicants, application can be submitted within 180 days after graduation.
The deadline is calculated from the day when applicant receives the completion letter from their college/university/school.
For applicants in Canada, the PGWP application can be submitted directly within 90 days after graduation. If it is more than 90 days but less than 180 days after graduation, applicants must first apply for restoration of status before submitting the PGWP application.
There is no difference between 90 days and 180 days for applicants outside Canada, so long as they submit applications within 180 days.
Yes. Applicants can use the processing period to start work in advance.
The working hours accumulated during this period can be counted as the follow-up immigration process.
However, it is important to point out that the work experience accumulated during the learning cannot be used in the immigration process.
Many applicants in Canada did not submit their applications within 90 days of graduation due to various reasons, which resulted in an additional application for restoration of status.
From our experience, the IRCC is more rigorous in reviewing applications for restoration of status. Students may be picked up by the IRCC for details such as grades, transfers, and study schedules.
The materials required for an application for restoration of status are generally more thorough and comprehensive than a normal visa application, and a professional explanation letter must also be provided to convince IRCC officers.
In case you need to apply for restoration of status, it is recommended to consult our ICCRC to help you deal with the strict review by the IRCC.
A person can only apply for a PGWP once in his life, and it can never be renewed after it expires.
In 2021, due to the epidemic, the IRCC allowed some applicants to renew their permits for 18 months. But that was a special case. Under normal circumstances, there is no possibility of renewal of the graduate work permit.
When the permit expires, and applicant does not have enough working hours required for immigration, he/she needs to apply for other type of work permit in order to continue working in Canada.
The graduation work permit is an open work permit, which means that the holder can work under any employers.
The graduation work permit is not linked to the employment situation of the employer or individual, and applicants do not need to apply for a work permit separately when changing jobs.
